Codependency

Codependency is an emotional, learned behavior that can be passed down from one generation to another that affects an individual’s ability to have a healthy, mutually satisfying relationship.

People with codependency often maintain relationships that are one-sided, emotionally destructive and/or abusive. Some of the underlying problems may include a family member’s drug, alcohol, sex, or gambling addiction; physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. Attention and energy focus on the person who is ill or addicted, and the co-dependent person typically sacrifices his or her needs to care for this sick person.

When a co-dependent person places the sick individual’s health and safety before their own, they can lose contact with their own needs, desires, and sense of self. Care for the person with a problem becomes compulsive and defeating like a wife who covers for her alcoholic husband or a father who uses his influence to keep his child from suffering the consequences of delinquent behavior.

Dr. Orlandini’s therapy treatment starts with understanding the roots of the destructive behavior, coupled with individual and group therapy as needed. She will help the codependent identify and embrace his or her feelings and needs and stop behavior that allows or enables abuse to continue.

Dr. Orlandini’s practice has two locations, one in Miami and one in Miami Beach.

Please Note:

As part of her concierge services, Dr. Orlandini and her team are willing to provide psychologist and therapist services at either the Miami or Miami beach offices – with specific arrangements and conditions.
