FAQ

Yes, you can use your out of network coverage with your insurance to pay for your therapy. If you do, your insurer can reimburse you for therapy. The amount depends on the coverage you have. Please note that most insurances require you to have a diagnosis to receive reimbursement, and they do document this history.

You can call your insurance company to inquire about your specific coverage and reimbursement. Here are some helpful questions to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network coverage?
  • If so, is there an annual deductible? Have I met it? If no, how much has been met?
  • What percentage do you cover for out-of-network mental health providers?
  • Is there a maximum amount you reimburse per visit or per year?
  • Is there a claim form that I must use to submit for reimbursement?
  • How much time do I have to submit a claim after my session?
  • Do I need a pre-authorization? If so, how do I obtain it?

If they ask for CPT codes (Current Procedural Terminology), the most common used in my practice are:

  • 90791 (in-person initial consultation)
  • 90834 (in-person 45 minute session)
  • 90791-95 (virtual initial consultation)
  • 90834-95 (virtual 45 minute session)
  • 90847 (family therapy with patient present)

After your first session, ask me to send you a superbill (document with all the information that they require). You can submit the superbill to see how much reimbursement you will receive. You can also read the enclosed E.O.B (Explanation of Benefits). If you do not hear from them within 30 days, you can call to follow up on the status of the claim.

Most patients prefer therapy sessions in my South Beach office. In the event that travel to the office is difficult, I may be able to conduct therapy in your place of residence or work (additional fees apply).  If you are interested in this type of session, please ask me.

We are able to offer virtual services with HIPAA compliant platforms.

My work hours are flexible, with early morning (7am) and later appointments (8pm), all depending on the day. My office hours are Monday to Friday.

A scheduled appointment is one that is reserved just for you. If you are not able to make your appointment, please provide 24 hours notice, excluding weekends and holidays, to cancel with no charge. Feel free to discuss this in more detail in person.

Therapy sessions last 50 minutes. (If needed, longer sessions are scheduled ahead of time.) In the session, we review what has happened since the last session, and we continue work related to the reason for seeking services. My approach is very active and supportive. I hope to help you build many tools to cope, learn and, if appropriate, avoid similar issues in the future. If the opportunity lends itself, I do like to give some homework in attempt to apply what we have worked on within your therapy session.
Therapy is confidential. It is so confidential that if I were to see you in public, I would not acknowledge you or greet you unless you greet me first. Confidentiality regarding therapeutic treatment is limited in certain situations involving danger to self or others, or a history of abuse of a minor, the elderly or the disabled. Some other extreme rules do apply to limit confidentiality, and such limits to confidentiality will be discussed in the first meeting.
