Teen Suicide

You read about it in the news and see the reports on TV. CNN reported on April 10 that a 17 year old Canadian high school student was taken off life support on Sunday, three days after she tried to hang herself. Adolescence is a period of intense physical and emotional change in addition to peer and parental pressure. In the past year, over 14% of teens ages 14 to 18 have seriously considered suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in 10 to 24 year olds. The strongest risk factors are depression, substance abuse, and aggressive or disruptive behaviors.
